First Italian Arab Business Forum
The  12th October 2017, the Joint Italian Arab Chamber (JIAC) has organized, in collaboration with Promos – Chamber of commerce of Milan, Monza Brianza and Lodi, Union of Arab Chamber of commerce and with the support of Banca Intesa, the first Italian-Arab Business Forum in Milan. Bashar Jabban, Middle East Operations partner, attended the conference for the business internationalization department of Studio Righini. Dott. Jabban is also the president of Italian Business Group (IGB) in Saudi Arabia, which aim is to facilitate the business relations between Italia and Saudi Arabia.

In a political context not free of stress, like the Qatar’s regional crises, the Arab countries have developed a process of economic growth capable of lure significant foreign investment, generating several opportunities also for Italian companies.

Italy is indeed a strategic and economical partner for these countries, as the Italian foreign minister Angelino Alfano said, pointing out how between 2009 and 2015 the Italian export directed to Saudi Arabia increased by 112%, to United Arab Emirates by 64% and to Bahrein by 22%. Looking at the data the Italian exportation towards North Africa have exceeded 12 billiards of euro while the export to Middle East have reached 11 billiards of euro. Together the area Mena (Middle East – North Africa) today represent over the 6% of the total Italian Export.

The Bahrein ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Zayed R. Alzayani, have then identified in tourism and ICT the industries with more opportunities for alliances and Joint Venture with Italian companies, this without excluding other industries potentially attractive like the Energetic sector, Healthcare and Entertainment.

In order to give an objective frame to the countries, were then presented the main problems related to do business in Arab countries, which according to a survey made by Promos are: the lack of knowledge of the markets (26%), the research and preservation of the relationship with local partners (23%), bureaucracy (20%), difficulties to ensure bank credit (18%). The mobilization of a network of agencies able to help the companies with information services and tools goes in the direction of overcoming these challenges, JIAC is an example of this.
