ITALY-SAUDI ARABIA BUSINESS FORUM

The 4^th of December 2017, at Palazzo della Farnesina in Rome, was held a business forum on the sidelines of the Intergovernmental Commission between Italy and Saudi Arabia. Bashar Jabban, Middle East Operations partner, attended the conference for the business internationalization department of Studio Righini. Dott. Jabban is also the president of Italian Business Group (IGB) in Saudi Arabia, which aim is to facilitate the business relations between Italy and Saudi Arabia.

The Italian Foreign Affairs Minister Angelino Alfano, has opened the forum, recalling the strategic importance of the connections between Italy and Saudi Arabia, he also took the opportunity to re-launch the relationships between the two countries by presenting the numerous opportunities, also for Italian companies, deriving from the ambitious Vision 2030 reform plan launched by the Saudi government.

Yousef Alolayn, representative of the Saudi General Investment Authority (SAGIA) then explained the most important aspects of this program, which aims to reform the country at all levels, economic, social and cultural. In fact, as explained by Hani Alsaigh, representative of the National Center for the Privatization and Partnerships of Saudi Arabia, the “Vision” provides a huge privatization plan involving twelve sectors and companies of the extent of Aramco. On this front, in fact, there will be a close collaboration with the Italian government given its past experience of numerous successful privatizations.

The forum then concluded with speeches aimed to illustrate the tools that institutions such as SACE and SIMEST have made available to Italian companies that operate or intend to operate abroad bringing also some testimony of success stories of Italian companies that have operated in Saudi Arabia.

The bilateral commission, structured in six panels, different themes: commercial trade, international investment and finance, energy, industry and mineral resources, infrastructure and transport, education, science and technology, agri-food, culture, art and tourism. At the end of the meeting, the undersecretary Amendola and the Saudi Minister of State Madani signed a final document.
